NuGO Guideline 3
Informed consent
Informed consent for research involving research volunteers who are not able to consent
The process of obtaining informed consent should be adapted to the comprehension of the research volunteer who is not able to give informed consent and must take place under the presence of at least one witness (preferably next of kin or guardian) who is legally authorized to sign the consent form.
If the volunteer is an incapable adult, possible previously expressed wishes or objections should be considered. If the volunteer is a child, his or her opinion should be taken into account depending on age and maturity. In any case, reluctance of the research volunteer should be respected.
