In September 2008, WP4 hosted a workshop in Cambridge for the purpose of presenting the results of the State of the Art review of methods and discussion of the dietary assessment method to be used in the WP5 pilot study.

The objective of the state of the art report was to provide an overview of dietary assessment methods presently used within the European Union, as well as a detailed review of 24 hour recalls and innovative methodsthat have recently emerged.

The State of the Art report was prepared primarily by WP4 members from the University of Cambridge, German Institute of Human Nutrition, and the International Agency for Research on Cancer. The workshop was attended by members of IDAMES and external experts, and feedback from participants in the workshop was used to finalize the State of the Art report.

In addition, WP4 conducted a survey of principal investigators in dietary studies in order to gain insight into the feasibility and logistics of different dietary assessment methods.
